Dr. Mohammad Speaks Out About "Club 27" and its Mystery Reviews, Complaints
Dr. Akikur Mohammad, Founder of Malibu Horizon, the leading non 12-step treatment center in Malibu, California and Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the University of Southern California (USC.edu), publicly denounced the notion that there is any mystery behind the notorious "27 Club", or the individuals who comprise the list. Made famous by popular culture, the 27 Club is an extensive list of celebrity musicians, who succumbed to death at the early age of 27 years old. With the recent death of 27 year-old Amy Winehouse, the club is once again a hot topic but Dr. Mohammad insists that this is all nothing more than an indication that the disease of addiction kills without prejudice and celebrity handlers have learned nothing about intervening on their employers when it comes to addiction.
Dr. Mohammad said, "Regular people and celebrities are dying at all ages from the disease of addiction - at an alarming rate, however, there is absolutely nothing significant about the age of 27 and to imply that there is any mystery behind the 27 Club is ludicrous." Mohammad added, "Show me a celebrity with unlimited resources, a spineless entourage and a substance abuse problem, and I'll show you an individual racing towards death. It just so happens that many celebrities in their late twenties are in a perfect position to self-destruct, which is exactly what happened to Amy Winehouse, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and the majority of the people listed as members of the 27 Club. They were all addicts with money, power and nobody around them with the strength to stop them from themselves."
Dr. Mohammad and his team will be adding this subject matter to the forthcoming series of 'town hall' meetings they plan to hold at the facility, which will give the professionals an opportunity to come to the facility and learn how to save their clients before it's too late. Mohammad added, "Sadly, there are clubs for people who have died at virtually every age if you do the research, however, popular culture has fixated on this group of 27 year-olds." Mohammad added, "If the people who cared about these young celebrities had the proper information about addiction and how they could intervene in an effective way, many of the 27 Club would still be here today. My team is fighting to save the future pop-culture icons by training their management teams to save their clients' lives, not just cash in on them. We can save lives if we communicate and I am inviting everyone to join our conversation."
