Dr. Akikur Mohammad, Founder of Malibu Horizon, the leading non 12-step treatment center in Malibu, California and Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the University of Southern California (USC.edu), announced today that the Malibu Horizon's team is preparing to launch an awareness campaign in honor of Betty Ford, the amazing work she did for the recovery community and the work that still needs to be done to raise awareness about the dangers of abusing prescription medication.
Dr. Mohammad said, "Betty Ford is a true recovery pioneer and the least we can do is preserve her amazing legacy by picking up where she left off and continuing her campaign for the responsible treatment of addiction." Mohammad added, "One of the most tragic realities about addiction is that according to various studies, opiate addiction is more prevalent in senior citizens than ever before – that is unacceptable and must be stopped. The most effective way to put a stop to senior abuse is to raise awareness and educate the masses. Dr. Mohammad and his team will be launching a series of 'town hall' meetings at the facility, which will give the public an opportunity to come to the facility and ask tough questions to industry-leading professionals. Mohammad added, "Many people enable seniors by letting their addiction slip through the cracks and that is doing everyone a disservice. Our town hall meetings will allow people to get the information necessary to save the lives of the people they love…not let them die without a chance."
